Movies to watch after seeing Ender's Game

Ender's Game is a highly enjoyable science fiction movie, starring Asa Butterfield and Harrison Ford.  It has a surprisingly dark tone, and is reminiscent of those kids sci fi movies from the 1970s and 80s.  It opened at number one at the US box office - but in its second week it sadly got swept aside by the mighty Thor 2.  No decision or a sequel has yet been made, though there is some talk of subsequent chapters being made for television.
The poster above says that Ender's Game is "Harry Potter meets Star Wars", which is not a bad summery - but here are some other movies that are worth checking out until Ender hits the home entertainment market.  There could be spoilers ahead.

Check out some movies with similar, dark themes.
Starship Troopers (1997) Whilst Paul Verhoven's violent sci fi classic is clearly not aimed at the same demographic as Ender's Game, it does share a surprising number of elements.  In both movies the soldiers are being exploited and asked to carry out immoral acts against other species.  The authorities in The Hunger Games (2012) take this to another level and get the kids to kill each other.

Check out some quality 80's movies.

The Last Starfighter(1984) has obvious thematic similarities. The "iPad" game element of Ender's Game was very reminiscent of the
80's fantasy classic, The NeverEnding Story (1984).  And no 80s kids in space retrospective would be complete without a viewing of Explorers (1985).

Check out a couple of classic movies starring Asa Butterfield.
At just 16, Asa Butterfield (Ender) has already had a pretty amazing career.  His two best performances are in the heartbreaking holocaust film, The boy in the striped pyjamas; & Martin Scorsese's masterpiece, Hugo.

Check out Kings of Summer.
There is are a lot of great performances in Ender's Game, but one of the standouts is young actor Moises Arias (Bonzo Madrid).  He can also be seen as the slightly strange Biagio, in the awesome -The Kings of Summer.

With co-stars Nick Robinson & Gabriel Basso.
